The Cypress House Hotel was the estate home of Richard Kemp and his family who moved to Key West from the Bahamas in the early 19th century. William Kemp, brother of Richard, introduced the sponge industry from Key West to the New York market and they became prosperous from this business. On the main building of the property, you will note the third-floor, eyebrow-style windows tucked under the roof overhang of this Bahamian-influenced home, built after the 1886 fire that destroyed much of Old Town at the time. You can also see hints of the Classic Revival style in the columns as well. The pine and cypress woods used in the 1800s for construction did not require a protective coat of paint and the main building continues that tradition today. Amazing location, wonderful pool area and a staff which was very courteous and attentive! We will definitely use this facility again! More Than I Ever Imagined! There are just not enough words I can say about how great this place was to stay! Romantic Weekend My husband and I just spent 3 nights and had a wonderful time. All the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was big and clean, bed was comfortable. The breakfast was very nice with a hot dish every morning in addition to fruit, cereals, yogurt, bagels etc. We loved the pool and happy hour. Great location for walking to Mallory Square, Duval and Historic Seaport. Loved that it was all adults. We will be back! We may request cookies to be set on your device.
